Is the outdoor sensor waterproof? Or if it rains, is that a problem for the batteries?

According to the operating instructions for the outdoor sensor, the following: "Do not use the product in a damp environment and avoid splashing water". My outdoor sensor is located on the balcony in the flower bed and has worked perfectly so far, despite the odd drop of splashing water.
