Is the cooler any good for gaming in terms of cooling?

Definitely suitable. Play GTA V with it, the graka is in any case more audible.
Keeps an i7-870 & an i5-2500k (overclocked to 4x 4.4 GHz, default 3.2 GHz) cool and quiet. But it is audible when listening very closely. Price/performance is unbeatable ergo yes, suitable for gaming!
