Is it possible to control 2 monitors with only one HDMI or can monitor 1 be controlled via HDMI and the second via the mini display port?

Regarding your first question, if you want to have the same picture on both screens, there are certainly splitters to transfer the signal to two cables. However, if you want to have different pictures, this will not work.
Regarding your second question, yes, this is possible without any problems.
