I'm interested in the Pro-Ject CD Box DS2T but I have a question about it: What does CD transport for digital signals mean? If I connect it to the Sonos Amp (which has an analogue RCA input or a digital input (hdmi), can I listen to the music CD or does it need to be connected to a dedicated D/A converter other than the Sonos Amp. Is the Sonos Amp a D/A converter or do I need something else to listen to and especially hear the music on the CD properly decoded.
Here is the answer given by our responsible department =>
This is an explanation of the difference between a CD transport and a CD player:
Traditional CD players have a DAC (digital to analogue converter) built in, which means that there is an analogue audio output. CD transporters are different because they do not have analogue or digital-to-analogue components, nor filters to enhance the analogue sound. Instead, they transmit the digital audio signal directly to a digital-to-analogue converter or to an amplifier with a digital-to-analogue converter via digital outputs such as coaxial or optical outputs. By connecting to an amplifier or DAC via the digital output, the signal remains in its original digital form as long as possible, unlike traditional CD players.
The manufacturer recommends the use of its Pro-Ject DAC Box DS2 ultra D/A converter (Pro-Ject DAC Box DS2 ultra (DA, Premium converter) ) saying:
'Combined with any advanced D/A converter, such as our DAC Box DS2 ultra, you get high-end sound reproduction unlike anything else in this price range.
