Question about Samsung 850 EVO Basic

I would like to replace the hard disk from my notebook. Does the Samsung SSD need to be as big as the hard disk for mirroring or just as big as the occupied space of the source hard disk?

Occupied memory space as far as I know.

Depends on the migration tool.

However, Samsung offers a free tool called "Samsung Migration" (or similar) with a purchase of their SSDs that only requires the same amount of used memory.
