I used OCTOPI_2015-05-05-octopi-wheezy-0.12.0 (a Raspbian variant). I had endless problems connecting (95%+ of the time it would not connect), till I bought a new wireless router and then it connected pretty much right away, without a problem. So, consider the router could be a source of the problem too.

With Raspbian Wheezy and Jessie it works for me without any problems.
