I want to use Samsung 860 EVO (2000 GB, M.2 2280) in an Icy Box IB-1817M-C31 - NVMe M.2 as an external SSD. However, it is not recognised by the computer. I have tried it with two Apple computers (High Sierra and Catalina) - without success. Does anyone think of the reason?

It is normal that this does not work. It doesn't work because the SSD and the enclosure are not compatible. It is not because of the computers.
SSD is AHCI/SATA
Enclosure is NVMe
But both have to work with the same protocol. So swap SSD or enclosure.
