Hello yes you can do that. However the exact RPM PWM Infos on the differnt PC software will not show exact values when the 4th pin is not connected through. I have done that as well with a 3 pin watercooling fan and it works well on an old Z77 sabertooth motherboard 4 Pin connector. kind regards R+  PS hint: make sure to buy silent fans!!! do not go over 20 dBA if possible... makes it easy and quiet to work...  e.g. Noctua NH-D15 cpu cooler etc. are great! I can recommend them. (measure the size / dimensions in your PC)
