I want to change my Synology for a newer one. I have a question about the SSD cache. Is it better to buy two 500GB caches for example rather than one 1000GB cache?
Hello, the configuration of the SSD cache depends on 3 main points: 1. the model of Synology, 2. the size of the installed RAM memory, 3. the type of use.
1. the maximum storage, RAM size, SSD cache size and RAID type options used depend on the chosen SYNOLOGY model,
2. the SSD cache size depends on the installed RAM size,
3. if the SYNOLOGY is used mainly for reading information the read cache will suffice, but if the SYNOLOGY is used for many operations involving simultaneous reading and writing, it will be necessary to configure the SSD cache as read/write.
In summary, installing a single SSD cache drive will simplify the process and be suitable for most users.
Installing multiple SSD caches will involve configuring the cache's RAID mode and choosing to enable the cache in read or read/write mode, an option reserved for advanced users with specific needs.

I hope this answer helps, and I wish you and your loved ones good health.
