I want to buy an e-scooter for a distance of 1 km with a load of about 120kg. But I'm wavering between the Segway-Nineboot and Vmax models. What appeals to me with the Segway-Ninebot models is the suspension (disadvantage of low wattage) and with the Vmax models the higher wattage (disadvantage of no suspension). Does anyone have much experience with these two manufacturers and how do they fare in prolonged use? Do these models cope well with inclines, snow and rain? How long would the ride take approximately if you ride 1 kilometre? Many thanks in advance to everyone for their help.

Helpful answer

Hello VoxMachina, I've had the Segway Max G2D since summer 2024 and I'm absolutely delighted with it. I watched a lot of comparison tests on YouTube beforehand. The Segway's suspension is an absolute highlight. The suspension masters bumps, driveways and light gravel paths with ease. The brakes, indicators, brake lights, etc. are also great. I weigh around 90kg with clothes and a light rucksack. This means that the Segway has no problem at all on most inclines. I usually whizz up the hill at the full 22 km/h. At 120 kg, it can cope with a little less incline. And otherwise the speed might drop to 16 - 18 km/h. According to the tests on YouTube, however, the other manufacturers are not much better. A test ride would actually be ideal. And another tip: Like all batteries, the Segway battery doesn't like the cold. I once had to leave it outside for three hours in temperatures of around zero degrees. Then it only went up the hill at 14 km/h. I don't ride in the snow and only in an emergency in the rain. So I can't comment on that. However, it is not recommended. Regarding the question about how long it takes to drive 1 kilometre: as the bike uses the legal tolerance and drives at 22 km/h in sport mode, it should be possible to cover the kilometre in 3-4 minutes. However, this does not include braking for stop roads etc. But accelerating is a lot of fun afterwards anyway and you're back up to 22 km/h in just a few seconds. I hope this information helps you decide.

If the answer still helps you:

I own the Max G2 D myself and, depending on the contents of my rucksack, I can carry around 110-115kg on the scooter. After the first winter and a few other bad weather days, I can give you the following information:
- Rain is not a problem.
- I've never had so much snow that it would have affected the ride; but I didn't use the scooter during the really heavy snowfall last November either.
- Slopes in summer/autumn (>10°C) up to ~10% are no problem in sport mode at full speed (20km/h), at 13-15% the speed drops to approx. 15 km/h.
- Cold is the biggest weakness: in winter at around 0° I ride the same gradients much slower (approx. 15 km/h at 10% and only 5-8 km/h at 13-15% gradient)
- The range is heavily dependent on the driving mode and the external factors of temperature and gradient. One of my most frequently used routes in sport mode: 4.3km and 131 metres of ascent consume 20% battery capacity in summer/autumn and just under 40% in winter.

I myself ride the Segway Nibebot G2 Max

Unlike most riders, I use the scooter hardcore, do a lot of testing with it and live in the mountains

I wouldn't worry about the environmental influences, for example in snow the scooter itself (the ground) can sink into it and it still goes forwards

Rain, mud, gravel etc. no problem

At low temperatures, as with all electric vehicles, the range is limited, but should still be 30-40km (depending on the gradient) in sport mode

Regarding inclines, it depends on the weight

With my 90kg I can manage a 15% incline (summer), I think with 120kg I can still manage 10% (realistically calculated)

Speed, measured via GPS are real 20 when the speedometer says 22 (maximum) which can be reached in sport mode

So if the route is 1km long, the journey takes around 3 minutes (if you can drive at full throttle)
