I like the look of the LaCie ones, so I wonder if there is an empty case with an electronics connector for Thunderbolt, where you could put 3.5 inch HDDs in it yourself? Is there such a thing?

You have two options: either buy this product and modify it to your liking. Or you could ask Ferrari for a cover to put over a Passat.
