I have ordered a Ryzen 7 9800X3D. But now I need a motherboard that meets my requirements. Unfortunately, I don't quite understand the PCI lanes. My criteria are that I need a PCIE x16 for the graphics card. Preferably with PCIE 5.0 Then I need at least 3 M.2 slots for the SSDs. Then a Blu-ray drive with SATA and an HDD changer SATA will be connected. I also need a USB C port for the Quest 2 and a Toslink for the soundbar. This should all work so that the graphics card loses one lane. My favourite is the MSI MPG X670E CARBON WIFI motherboard, but it's quite expensive. Alternatively, I also have the MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WIFI and the ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-E GAMING WIFI. If I can't recommend any of these motherboards, I've also included the MSI X670E GAMING PLUS WIFI. It lacks the Toslink connection. I would have to retrofit a sound blaster or add a new 3.5mm jack cable. But I would like to avoid that. What can you recommend from experience?

Helpful answer

Recommendation:
If your budget allows and you don't want to compromise:

MSI MPG X670E Carbon WiFi: Full feature coverage with Toslink, PCIe 5.0, and enough M.2 slots.
If the budget is stricter:

ASUS ROG Strix B650E-E Gaming WiFi: Cost-efficient and with Toslink. However, check whether the available PCIe lanes are sufficient for future expansions.

I think all modern ATX Mains should fulfil your requirements. I recently bought and installed the Carbon with 670 chipset you mentioned. I'm satisfied so far. But if you're looking for something cheaper, Tomahawk might do the trick. I'm not familiar with Asus and Acer, so I can't say much about them. As for Karbon, I was surprised to find integrated Bluetooth among all the other innovations. Five years ago I also used a Karbon, an older model, and have been happy with it for all five years. Hope that helps you.
