I had a similar problem a few weeks ago and so did my wife at the same time. I only received a few meaningless answers from Garmin support. However, the problem disappeared by itself after a few days. Maybe it is due to a faulty update. Maybe a new update or a factory reset and reconfiguration will help.

I think it could be a defect. I have had the watch for about 3/4 of a year now and have never had such problems.
