Question about Ubiquiti USG: UniFi Security Gateway
I have a router with only one LAN output but 2 Unifi Access Points 6LR (both with POe Injector) in the basement. I would like to use this switch as a distributor for the network connections in the basement - is that possible with this part? And is it correct that I can only connect the access points with the LAN cable connection and the remaining network connections are not for Unifi?
Hoi - it's not a switch, but a firewall and you could meshen the access points... That is, one connects to the other via Wifi... Otherwise: Keep the router (you will probably need it anyway from your ISP?) and use a simple 0815 switch and connect both APs to it....and to the switch to the router.
Depending on the AP, these have 1 or 2 network outlets (and sometimes you can use them, sometimes pair them). You'll have to check the schemas for your APS at Unifi.
I have 3 APs in the basement - one is via RJ45 uplink to a switch (just from Unifi because it was cheap at the time and LACP was so easy to use) - the other two: 1 is via mesh (wifi) to the one with uplink, the other via second switch via RJ45 to the one via mesh.... works too.
With mesh you lose some bandwidth... but for my purposes that is completely sufficient.
