Question about Amazon ECHO Dot (2nd gen)

I have a question regarding Alexa in Switzerland. I don't really have a problem with the fact that not everything works. But I can't even activate skills or take over my Spotify account. I can also only upload 250 songs to the Amazon Music Cloud, because as a Swiss user you can't buy a data storage extension. The fact that I can't use the app doesn't bother me much, but is there a way to activate Spotify? Which functions actually work in Switzerland?

Hello Saphire98
I got myself a new Amazon account with a German address. As far as I know, this is the only way you can benefit from Spotify. With my CH account, I couldn't select Spotify at all. With the DE account it works perfectly. As soon as you have logged in, you can also use other accounts with a Swiss address, such as those from Google for the calendar.
Activating skills also works without problems. However, some skills are only for DE and do not work in Switzerland. I can't say anything about Amazon Music Cloud. I do not use this service.

I use my Alexa for the following things:
- Listen to Spotify
- Listen to the radio
- Control Philips Hue system
- Get appointments add, delete to my Google Calendar account
- alarm clock
- retrieve information from the Internet > I have also created a Google Skill (instructions are available on the Internet)
- Play a summary of the day from SRF Radio
- Get weather (works only moderately well, because you can't set a CH address as default in the Alexa app, so Alexa doesn't know my village and often doesn't understand it >use weather online and it works there, but it's a bit more complicated than with the built-in app)
- as a timer for cooking and baking :-)

I've had the Alexa since Friday and so far I'm very positively surprised by the little one.

Alexa App can be installed as Swiss on the iPhone.
To do this, however, the current Apple account must be changed to DE.
If you now have subscriptions in your Ch account, unfortunately these must first be cancelled.
then you can find the app in the DE Store.
Alexa is interesting, especially for smarthomes, and I can recommend ioBroker as a broker and Blockly + Node Red to write routines, after which you can simply call up everything you want to do smart with Alexa. The possibilities are almost endless. I control the TV, Denon and Dreambox all by voice, as well as the top of my convertible or my auxiliary heating in the car, and that's just with routines.

Is it worth buying Alexa for Switzerland?
What disadvantages are there?
What all can I not do?
Is Google Home better?

can anyone from Switzerland use it to make voice calls? As far as I know, you can only set it up via the app (speech bubble symbol) > Get started... Then I get an error message There was an issue... Otherwise, everything is set up for Germany.

Hello all
Does Amazon Prime Music actually work in Switzerland or do I have to do another hack? I would like to take my Amazon Prime account from DE and buy an Echo to stream Prime Music with it.
Or do I have to use Amazon Music unlimited if I want to use an Amazon music streaming service in Switzerland?

It's very easy with the iPhone/Ipad: simply go to https://alexa.amazon.de and then select "Request desktop site" in Safari.

Hello. Has anyone installed the Alexa app on iPhone? Where can I download the app? There's none in the CH AppStore.... Thank you!

Hello everyone,
I am very enthusiastic about ALEXA.
But: Since we are emigrating to Malaysia in July/18, I would like to know if I can also use ALEXA there with a German account?

In addition to this list, which also confirms my experience, I would like to mention that I control my entire SmartHome via Alexa:
- Blinds up and down as well as adjusting the slats.
- Shading system in the conservatory
- all ceiling, floor and other lamps
- Christmas lighting
- Sonos speakers

I also set up the whole thing via a DE-Amazon account.

I was not able to get the Alexa app onto my iPhone. I do have a DE Apple ID - but no DE payment method. But via the browser it works like a charm.

I will now buy a second and possibly a third Dot.
