Question about GoPro 3-way hand grip

I don't understand all these accessories for GoPros. Every accessory item is described as "Universal". However, it also says "Hero 3/4/6/7" in each case. Are the accessories now common for all models, i.e. also for the Hero 8/9, or are they only "universal" as long as you use them for the specified models? Really confusing...
