Question about WD Red Plus

I bought the WD Red Plus (8 TB, 3.5", CMR) and wanted to install it in my Synology DS212+ (DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 6). But the system reports the disk as not compatible. And when I put the previous disk of the same type with 6TB back in, it is also shown as no longer compatible. This is despite the fact that it has been working without any problems for over 3 years. Neither the old 6TB nor the new 8TB WD Red Plus (CMR) is listed in the compatibility list. Can I still install them without risk?

I use the disk in the DS418 without any problems. By the way, I also found the 6TB drive in the compatibility list for the DS212+. It may be due to the firmware. But I'm not an expert enough to say for sure.

I'm afraid you can't do that. And that means Synology as a whole. The company has decided to only allow "own branded disks" in order to push through inflated prices and skim off the top. You can easily find information about this in Google and other search engines with "Synology vendor lock in". In other words, Synology has expropriated you. You can only try (if you still have it) to flash back the first original BIOS, then install the disk and finally install the new firmware. Then it "should" work. But that is not guaranteed.
