I bought the BluRay Portable Writer from Samsung years ago, which simply no longer plays BDs, but only DVDs and CDs. I have several BluRay drives portable and internal... I have never had any problems with ASUS and LG (oldest drive over 8 years)...
Never needed an update either... When buying a BluRay drive, make sure that it can also burn BDs and costs only a few francs more... The drive I bought can only play BD and burn DVD because I have several drives, it does not matter to me... In terms of price, LG is the cheapest... Whether the drive can burn BluRay is in the specification....
