I am planning to use this with a digital music player whose USB ports only provide 500mA of current. How much current does this SSD need? What about the 1TB version?
According to Samsung, this type of SSD consumes a maximum of 3.5 watts. Knowing that the USB port provides 5V and that the current is continuous and that P=U x I We have therefore that I=P/U is I=3.5/5=0.7 [A] or 700 [mA].
So the answer is a priori no. But, if the disk support has a double USB plug (one of which is for current only), then it works.
