I am interested in the PCIE card SSD7101A-1 from Highpoint. However, I would like to have the latest version with a fan that can be switched off. Apparently this is not possible with all cards of the same serial number. Can you guarantee that I will receive such a version when I order it? Or can I try out the card and return it with the package open if it's not the right one?

I unplugged the fan today. The card was already getting warm, but not in the SSD area, but on the chip of the card itself. It's also quite idiotically designed because the fan's airflow is blocked by a heat-conducting cube which is right in the way. The SSDs won't experience much airflow. Long story short, the card still works and there were no failures to complain about. The fan isn't necessarily loud, but it makes such an annoying noise that unplugging it is almost mandatory. Just make sure that the ventilation is otherwise somewhat correct in the case, otherwise it's an own goal.

Not sure if you can refund the full cost if the box has been opened. I ordered one and the fan cannot be stopped. When I unplug it, the card does not work properly.
