I am actually looking for a RELIABLE hard drive for backups of videos and photos. I wonder if a WD Gold or WD Black is the right - not to say - the better product??? Than, for example, WD Green or WD Blue. Both are gone after 2 and 8 years respectively!
I can't answer that question conclusively. I bought the WD Gold for desktop work for photo editing/the shows (2020). For my NAS, I use the WD RED. However, after 4 years I had to replace one of the two hard drives. As I was assured from a reliable source, this is an exception though. Greetings HRB77
In my opinion, the WD Gold is the best there is. However, I haven't had mine for 8 years yet. I bought the WD Gold because my WD Purple also developed a few faults after about 4 years. Unlike the WD Black, the WD Gold is filled with a special gas to produce less abrasion and thus protect the mechanics. Greetings technicsfan1
