How much better is the battery life on a MacBook Pro 14" 8C CPU 14C GPU 32 GB RAM compared to a MacBook Pro MAX 14" 10C CPU 32C GPU 32 GB RAM? In other words, the least and almost most equipped 14"? Both Apple and the various reviewers don't have clear and well-tested answers there. I strongly suspect that the battery drain is significantly higher on the MAX because the GPUs and the extra RAM consume more battery. (with all other things being equal.)
In my experience, the M1 Max consumes slightly more power in normal operation. Under maximum load, the M1 Max also consumes about 5 watts more power than the Pro model. On the other hand, the M1 Max needs more load to reach its limits and is therefore more efficient in graphics-intensive tasks. In normal operation (office), however, the M1 Pro requires slightly less power. This is consistent with the statement from this review: "I asked Apple, and the company confirmed the M1 Max uses more power both when idle and when active, but it noted that the M1 Max might potentially be more efficient if you run specific multi-core GPU workloads all day."
