How long should the glasses be in the ultrasonic bath to get the areas from the lens to the frame properly clean? Is it even possible to do this with clear water only?

Depending on how dirty it is 90-400s and if not, repeat the process, adding a few drops of detergent or ultrasonic cleaner (1:10).
If very little washing-up liquid is added to the water, the maximum of 480 seconds should be sufficient, otherwise another 480 seconds.
