How is the part charged? Battery life? Or have I missed something completely? ;-)

It does not charge because it has no battery. However, it draws the power it needs from the connected iPad.

The Apple Smart Keyboard is charged by the iPad as soon as it is connected. This applies to any of the Apple Smart Keyboards. No cables necessary.
