how do you charge the thing? I've had the thing on power for 12 hours as described in the instructions, but nothing works...when plugged in, the thing does light up...but without the charging cable, the thing doesn't even turn on... I had exchanged it once, and the second time it was exactly the same...

Hello, I think there is something wrong with the wiring. So wrong plugs in the wrong place. I have had mine for about 3 years and have replaced the batteries with larger 12Ah. There I also made a mistake when plugging them together because everything is written in Chinese. I would start there with the error search.
