I've seen that there's an app that comes with the Wiim Amp. My question is as follows: do I have to use this dedicated application to chromecast music from Youtube, for example, or can I do it directly from the Youtube application on my phone by clicking on the Chromecast tab?

You can chromecast (or airplay) directly!

From music apps, online video, VLC...

The Wiim app is discreet ("bypassable"), even though it's very well done.
