Samsung 990 Pro with Heatsink
1000 GB, M.2 2280
Hello I would like to upgrade my five-year-old PC. Unfortunately, I'm not a PC expert at all. The current mainboard: Gigabyte Z370P D3, ATX, Intel Z370 chipset Now I would like to upgrade the following; -Samsung 990 Pro with heatsink 1000 GB, M.2 2280 -Corsair Vengeance LPX 2 x 16GB, 2666 MHz, DDR4-RAM, DIMM Will this work or is there anything I need to consider? Thank you very much for your help.
PS:
Just wanted to add: For PCIe 3.0, the "Samsung 970 EVO Plus" is an excellent choice (e.g.: 1TB for only CHF 82.-). I have been using one myself for years and have never had any problems with it. My measurements showed 3460 MB/s seq. read and 3150 MB/s seq. write.
Samsung 970 EVO Plus (1000 GB, M.2 2280)
The Gigabyte Z370P D3 supports PCIe 3.0 x4 for M.2 with up to 3.9 GByte/s, as far as I know. However, the Samsung 990 Pro M.2 is designed for double the bandwidth (PCIe 4). This means that with the old motherboard you only get half the possible performance of the more modern Samsung 990 Pro.
To use the Samsung 990 Pro sensibly, with full performance, you need a mainboard that supports PCIe 4. So it makes no sense to spend a lot of money to only get half the performance. An M.2 memory for PCIe 3 makes more sense and is cheaper.
Unfortunately, I can't answer that for you. I bought this expansion for my PS5. Sorry.
