Hello, I have ordered and installed 2 WD Red Plus 8TB for my DS224+. The noise rattles and stutters with every access and is really annoying. Does anyone know whether the 6TB or 10TB discs are quieter, thank you.

Helpful answer

The 4TB variant is quieter, I have no experience with the 6TB, the 10TB are at least as loud as the 8TB, if not a little louder, larger HDDs are usually loud, as far as I know, the WD Pro are even louder, as are the equivalent Seagate drives. Unfortunately this is the case

Larger discs are indeed somewhat louder. However, the noise of the fans bothers me almost more than the discs. In general, it is not advisable to place a NAS in the living or working area. I keep my NAS in the basement.

The bigger, the "louder".
If the NAS is open in the neighbourhood, this unfortunately has an impact. Otherwise, you may want to reconsider the installation location.
