Hello, can I use the device in Australia without further ado or do I have to buy or load something with it? With best thanks

Yes, this is possible. For the use of the map of Australia, as well as all other maps outside Europe (which are pre-installed), these must be downloaded separately, which are free of charge. I recommend an additional microSD card with 16 or 32GB for this.
