Hello, the Smarthub must be connected to the LAN cable that is in the same WLAN network as the camera.  It is important that the camera has a good connection in the WLAN. Then the distance between the camera and SmartHub does not play a great role, just be in the network. I hope to have served you. I also have questions about the handling of the Arlo products.
