Have I understood this correctly: I can operate the router with the USB cable. As soon as I disconnect it, the device runs seamlessly with the battery. Is that the case?

This is possible and unfortunately necessary. Because the runtime with "battery only" is manageable. Unfortunately, the router doesn't last a whole working day for me. Before buying it again, I would take a closer look at the competitor models.
