does this fully support time machine backup of mac?
As far as I know you can use any external USB HDD for Time Machine as long as it is formatted in the HFS+ file system from Apple: https://support.apple.com/en-us...
Apple made it even so user friendly, that it will show you a prompt and ask if you want to use the device as a Time Machine backup as soon as you plug it in. They even warn you that you will loose the data from the drive should you format it. This should not be a problem if it is new drive from a store. Otherwise make a copy from the data on the drive and format it afterwards for use Time Machine
As soon as you choose to use it as a Time Machine drive it should be straight forward. By the way: you can still use the drive to copy files manually and retrieve it from it. Don’t try to mount it on a Windows system without special software to read HFS+ formatted drives. It won’t work. Otherwise you have to partition the drive with Drive Utility and make a Mac and Windows partition.
Good luck and may the backup be with you
