Does the fan go on the ASUS Maximus VIII Hero motherboard? Is there a RAM slot blocked with the HyperX Savage?

No, the RAM slots are not blocked. I have also installed HyperX. The fan and the heat pipes also only come out of the base of the heat sink on one side, so you can still align it on 3 other sides if you want.
