Does the classic AHCI protocol also work here? There are also m.2 SSDs with AHCI.

I'm not 100% sure, it's been a while. The enclosure above talks to PCIe SSDs via NVME. If you have a SATA SSD, it wants to talk AHCI. I mean then that would be more appropriate: Transcend SSD Conversion Kit

I am of the opinion that this protocol does not work, these enclosures are very delicate in this respect, look for an enclosure specifically designed for this purpose ......
