Does the ASUS G501VW-FI074T really not have a connection for RJ45/LAN port? It is definitely not listed in the specifications under connections...

Yes, the notebook does not have an RJ45 connection. But that is not a problem, I use an RJ45 USB adapter.

Yes, not a conventional RJ-45 port, but a USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapter is included.
