Does it also work the other way round? If I leave the mobile phone and run away with the SmartTag Key, it should alert me. Is that possible ?

The new version Smarttag+ has the feature you want. But I can't find it at Digitec yet, but I don't know if it's already out or if it's still to come.

According to the instructions, the mobile phone can be made to ring using the tag (press twice), provided the smartphone is connected...

It seems that it doesn't even work in the first case. So the mobile phone does not alert if I run away without a tag.

The manufacturer does not seem to give any information on whether it also works the other way round.
