Does Garmin actually bring out a new Fenix every year around Aug/Sept? Is it worth waiting?
Until now, a new Fenix came out every two years, and (offset by one year) a new Forerunner every two years. This time, however, the Fenix came out 4 months after the Forerunner. Leaks from March expected the Forerunner 955 for 2020 (with LTE, according to the leaks). I wouldn't expect the Fenix 7 before 2021, especially considering that new Solar versions have just come out.
Is it worth waiting? Unless you need LTE (in my opinion only relevant for live tracking, safety & assistance, such as incident detection, and podcats/music streaming, where the offline solution works reasonably well), then not necessarily. Maybe on the Forerunner, since the FR945 still has somewhat thick bezels compared to the newer Fenix. Not on the Fenix 7 - I don't know what new features they want to put in there. Except maybe global heatmap maps instead of just maps for Europe (as is now the case with the new Edge 1030 Plus).
The best time to start exercising is now.
So no, don't wait, start now.
Fenix 6 was published in September 2019. Fenix 7 February 2022, i.e. approx. every 2 - 3 years.
