No, you can redeem the subscription whenever you want. There is no expiry date. You can already register for a SIM card on connect.digitec.ch and indicate that you want to port your number to digitec connect at the end of the contract. 
According to Digitec, the data is effectively unlimited and is not throttled or anything like that.
