Dear Community, I need urgent help: I bought Microsoft Surface Laptop 5, Microsoft Surface Dock and Samsung Odysee G5 monitor, which is connected to the dock with a MiniDP to DP. Driver for the monitor "successfully installed". Windows 11 all updates executed. Nevertheless, only a Generic Monitor with 640 x 480 is recognised. Does anyone know this problem and how can it be solved? Thank you very much for your answers.
Hello
I don't have exactly the same setting or solution but I would try the following:
- Uninstall the display via the device manager and then install it again.
- Check Samsung Online for a newer driver
- Upgrade the firmware of the Microsoft Dock
- Test the cable and monitor on another notebook to rule out a defect in the cable or monitor.
- Connect the Surface to another monitor to rule out a defect in the Surface.
Troubleshooting with try and error may take time. Plan B may be to simply use a USB-C to DisplayPort or USB-C to HDMI cable, the easier and faster solution.
I run a Surface Laptop 5 with a Samsung LS34A650UXUXEN via the USB-C/Thunderbolt interface and it works perfectly.
Best regards
Hello, I had the same problem with another Samsung monitor LS34A650UBUXEN. I tried the Surface Dock from my son via the Display Port and it only recognised 640x480. With an old Surface Book 2 the screen was recognised correctly. I then got the Surface Dock 2 and connected the screen via USB-C, which is how it works for me. But I don't think your screen has a USB-C port.
My son also got a new screen, the same one you have. He is currently using a Surface Book 3. When connecting via Display Port to Mini DP, only a Generic monitor was recognised.
We still have an adapter from USB-C to various ports, so we connected the screen from the USB-C of the Book directly via HDMI and the screen is recognised. He also has an adapter from Mini Display Port to HDMI, with this on the Surface Dock the screen is now also recognised.
