This works for us, the children use the Xiaomi Mi Watch, which is linked to the parents' app/smartphone.

I don't take my phone with me when I go swimming or running. So far, I have never had a problem with synchronisation when I got home. The route map is also displayed correctly.
Note: When swimming in the pool, the watch has a deviation from reality. At 1000m +/- 50m (one lane)
