Can the 8TB version also be installed in a Synology DS216+II? Is there anything else to consider when upgrading from 2x3 TB to 2x8TB ?

Yes.

Note from Snyology: This drive is only compatible with Synology NAS models with hard drive tray shipped since June 2014.
