Can only memory with 184 pins really be used here or is that a mistake? The older Z690 has 288 pins.

The specification of 184 pins is wrong. This incorrect number appears in Digitec's specifications for mainboards from time to time, even for DDR5.

Looks like a typo. You can even get your alder modules to work (I am using: https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product/gskill-aegis-4-x-16gb-3200-mhz-ddr4-ram-dimm-ram-12454928) which i had as left over after my old PC... this remaind me to change it).
