can it also be used as a hoover? and thus possibly also simply clean a carpet?

The instructions for use state that the hoover should not be used without water.
Yes, it's for suction only, but as it's designed for water, it wouldn't be ideal on a carpet, but it works. For water, you can pour in a litre and it's all sucked up in a few seconds.
