Question about Philips Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip 75"

Can I use Lightstrip without the box? The picture on the TV comes from my PC to the TV. I can use the Philipps HUE Sync app to control the Philips LED strips I already have. Would this also work with the Gradient Lightstrip, has anyone already set this up?
