The new Lightstrip Plus supports both Bluetooth and Zigbee, so you can use it without investing in a Hue Bridge. If you want to use with WIFI, use the Hue Bridge. and yes, you can switch the light on and off by switch only, but you have to control the light colour and intensity via the app.
