As I understand it, you pay a plan for the "Art Mode". I myself have access to countless image files of artworks in highres/TIF format and don't want to pay extra for anything. Is that also possible, or is the "Art Mode" somehow mandatory?
Yes, you can, that's what I do - I don't pay money for a plan when there are endless free pictures on the internet! Simply use the free smartthings app to select a picture or photo from your gallery and upload it. You first have to register everything and connect to the same network, then it's easy. You can also use the smartthings app to crop and crop images yourself. It's all child's play! Here's the thing: the app doesn't work well on my Galaxy smartphone (I've also reset it). On my iphone and ipad, smartthings works great!
So the TV can display all kinds of pictures or read them from NAS etc. BUT - The Samsung ART mode, where you set the frame of the picture and select a work of art, is permanently linked to the SAMSUNG ART Store and is a paid service. For example, you can switch off the TV and it automatically switches to Art Mode. The ART mode can also always display the same picture or, according to your choice, art topics, artists or "art playlists".
Also about the frame for the pictures (white in the photo). The frame is only software of the art store with shadows, adjustable colour and frame style - thin, thick etc. When you take the TV out of the box, there is no white frame. This is part of the setting in the Samsung ART Store.
