To be fair, its just a USB disk array and it in itself is not very intelligent (you add your own disks - in my case its just a collection of old disks from old laptops & PCs). If you are going to share the drives, you are probably better using a computer (Windows, MAC, whatever) and managing the share from there. It is the simplest option I think and easiest to setup & manage.

Yes and no. It depends on the router. Routers that have a USB input for peripherals such as USB sticks or external USB drives can recognise these devices if they have the associated driver. What's more, some routers only recognise USB external drives up to a certain maximum size. So it depends on the router, case by case. I've personally had cases where the USB device was recognised by one router and not by another. You need to look at the compatibility list of devices recognised for the router in question.
