The Hoya Variable Density II is a filter with adjustable density and an ND range of 1.5 to 9 stops (ND3-400). The filter features a newly designed rotating frame with a convenient dial for better handling. For still images, variable density filters shorten the shutter speed according to the photographer's intentions when the shutter speed cannot be reduced due to camera limitations. The Hoya R72 infrared filter is specifically designed for infrared photography with digital cameras and infrared film. Infrared light begins in the deep red area of the visible spectrum at around 750 nm and extends beyond 1000 nm. When looking through the R72 filter, it appears almost opaque, as the filter only allows light from the very high red edge of the visible spectrum and infrared light to pass through. Due to the nature of infrared light, the filter factor and exposure compensation differ significantly from visible light and largely depend on the lighting conditions. The Hoya R72 works well with digital cameras, especially with mirrorless cameras or DSLRs that do not have an IR cut filter in front of the sensor.
