    Anyone looking for an RC battery with us will be amazed: there are hundreds of different makes, types and models available. We'll show you what to look out for with the battery.

    In order to find the right
    battery, the size of the battery compartment and the corresponding battery must be taken into account. In addition, the relevant characteristics of the batteries must fit. These are on the one hand the type, the voltage and the number of cells which are dependent on each other, on the other hand also the capacity (indicated in mAh). Last but not least, a suitable connector is needed to connect the battery to the charger.

    Speaking of chargers, the battery life differs greatly from RC model to RC model. The factory setting is between 5 minutes and 45 minutes. In order to be able to drive or fly longer, it is advisable to have a few spare batteries ready. Of course, it is important to always choose a battery that fits the model. If the battery is not designed for the controller and does not match the motor power, the RC model will not work as desired.

    In model making, the main emphasis is on high performance and low weight when using a rechargeable battery. Lithium-based cells installed in lithium polymer batteries (LiPo), for example, have an energy density more than twice as high as that of cells in NiMH batteries. Due to their lightness, the LiPo batteries slowly but surely dominate model making. Although NiMH batteries are heavier and deliver less power than LiPo batteries, they are cheaper and less delicate to handle. NiMH batteries have a voltage of 1.2V per cell, LiPo batteries have a voltage of 3.7V.

    The LiPo batteries should always be stored and charged in the LiPo-Save-Bag, as they are protected in the bag. They react sensitively to overloading and can even explode. Intelligent chargers reliably prevent this. To charge LiPo batteries, you therefore need a charger that is specially designed for LiPo cells. If the cells are not evenly charged, discharged too deeply or even overcharged, they can suffer damage. Batteries that inflate must be sorted out and replaced for safety reasons.

    For optimum performance, it is important to note that batteries discharge themselves even when not in use. Therefore it is recommended to store LiPo batteries at a state of charge of 60% and a room temperature of about 20°C. NiMH rechargeable batteries should be stored at a state of charge of 40% and also at a room temperature of approx. 20°C.
