Picture quality is of course top, even if you have to reset all the preset "picture enhancement" settings beforehand. Most of the time, these settings only make the picture worse.
The unit works very quietly and quickly. It's probably not the device, but the new format of the 4K UHD disc. I also have the Panasonic DMP UB704, which cost almost twice as much, and it doesn't read all 4K discs either. I'm tempted to buy one of the cheapest devices from LG or Samsung to see if it does better. In any case, this Sony reads discs that are not read by the Panasonic. Conversely, the Sony UBP-X700 crashes so badly with certain discs that the only remedy is to disconnect it from the mains. The Panasonic at least displays "Disc not readable".
The sound is very loud compared to the Panasonic. I don't understand why, because all the data (sound and picture) are digital and therefore there should be no difference. But maybe I haven't found the setting for the Panasonic yet.
